Many, if not all, cities and towns in Massachusetts require a Certified Plot Plan be submitted with building permit applications for most building projects including: Additions, Decks, Swimming Pools, Sheds and Fences. Certified Plot Plans are stamped plans which must be drawn up by a Massachusetts licensed land surveyor or engineer. These plans are drawn to a measurable scale showing the subject property including its boundary lines, square footage and all buildings and structures which exist on the land. Municipalities use this information when evaluating your application for approval.
